Top 5 Indianapolis Area Fall Activities
Are you like me and are on the look-out for FUN Fall family-friendly activities ?! With the cooler temperatures, it’s so enjoyable to be outside!
Here are the top choices for our family to get out and enjoy the changing colors of Fall. I’d love to hear if you have been to these places…and maybe I can catch you there this Fall!
1: Hiking
My family and I LOVE hiking. Any time we can get a walk outdoors we can…even if it’s a little wet outside! With the cooler temperatures of Fall, we take advantage of getting outside any chance we get.
There are a variety of forest preserves around Indianapolis that are kid-friendly with smooth paths and not too long of a walk. I love Southeastway Park in New Palestine as it not only has a nice walking path but also plenty of picnic eating areas and a playground!
Another top choice for family hiking is Hummel Park in Plainfield. This park, like Southeastway Park, boasts beautiful paved trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
On the north side, Hague Road Nature Walk is a fantastic choice for families wanting to get a shorter nature walk in.
I don’t know about you…but when the family gets outside time, it definitely puts us all in a good mood! #ecotherapy
2: Apple Picking in Local Orchards
I eat apples regularly but there’s something about picking them yourself and bringing home a big bag of them that just makes them extra special! I’m a huge apple crisp fan (here’s my favorite recipe I use at every Thanksgiving!) but also love making homemade applesauce, apple butter, basically anything apples + sugar 😅
There are U-pick apple orchards all around Indy but you will find me at Tuttle Orchards in Greenfield this year! This is a quick drive for our family from our home in Morristown. Here’s a list of the BEST apple orchards around Indianapolis to pick your apples.
3: Pumpkin Patch Visit
Even before kids…I loved getting a pumpkin every year for the Fall! I especially loved using the smaller ones to decorate my home. Pumpkin patches typically have other activities as well such as corn mazes, playgrounds, petting zoos, and hayrides. If you’re like me, after you go pumpkin picking you will probably want to make pumpkin pie to celebrate all of your hard work walking and picking up heavy pumpkins (I make mine with a graham cracker crust =D)!
You will find me at the east side of Indianapolis pumpkin patches. There are two in Greenfield: Tuttle Orchards and Lark Ranch! Check out this complete list of pumpkin patches on the north, south, east, and west sides of Indy.
4: Fall Festivals
I love this calendar of Fall Festivals from Indy’s Child. It’s a bookmarked link in my browser so I can quickly look for a festival to do with family and/or friends in the Fall. It’s a great way to explore the surrounding communities of Indy while enjoying all the Fall flavors!
5: Trunk or Treats
Little ones grow out of their Halloween costumes so quickly…trunk or treats are a great way to have family fun while the kids get good use out of their costumes! Plus, for little legs, walking around the neighborhood might be too much…this way they can get the same experience but with less walking!
This is a complete list of Trunk or Treats happening around Indianapolis this Fall.
What are your family’s favorite things to do in the Fall? Maybe I will see you at one of these events this year!
